Introduction

This is a guide to completing the Issue Register provided by DB Gurus.


If you do not have a copy of the Issue Register template then one can be downloaded from here:

Document Initialisation

First thing set the Document Properties:

  • Click on the Office menu (circular button top left corner)
  • Choose Prepare, Properties
  • Set the Title = System or Job Name (e.g. "Online Database")
  • Set the Keywords = Client Name (e.g. ABC Corp")
  • Close
  • Press Ctrl+A, Ctrl+F9 to refresh
  • Go into the page header and press Ctrl+A, Ctrl+F9

Saving

Save as Job Name - Issue Register - Date.doc 

e.g. ABC Online Database - Issue Register - 2010-12-31.doc 


Raising an Issue



  • Leave the first issue (Issue 0) as the template - do not edit this one.
  • Copy the first issue and paste at the end of the document
  • Increment the Issue number (e.g. First issue is Issue 1 and so on Issue 2, Issue 3 etc.)
  • Edit the title but keep it short (e.g. Issue 2 - Error on Upload)
  • Ensure that the Status is correct 
  • Open - when it is first created
  • Fixed - programmer has fixed the issue but has not been verified
  • Unclear - more info is required
  • Re-Opened - programmer needs to look at it again
  • Closed - Verified as fixed or closed for some other reason
  • Complete the Issue / Requirement or Problem / Test Case section
  • Status should be "Open"
  • Press Ctrl+A, Ctrl+F9 to refresh the table of contents and save / distribute.


Programming 


  • The programmers addresses all items that are Open or Re-Opened
  • The programmer fills in the Solution section
  • The solution section says what is going to be done or has been done. It must be completed by the programmer before testing.
  • On completion change the status to "Fixed"
  • Press Ctrl+A, Ctrl+F9 to refresh the table of contents and save / distribute.

Testing


  • The tester tests all items that are Fixed



  • The tester puts their test results and comments in the section Test Results
  • Any items that are now correct are Closed
  • Any items that are not correct are Re-Opened
  • Press Ctrl+A, Ctrl+F9 to refresh the table of contents and save / distribute.


Notes


  • Use you initials in the document (not names)
  • Update the filename each time you save [JobName] Issues YYYY-MM-DD.doc (use Word 2003 format)
  • Send to all other members of the team.
  • ALL WORK OFF THE SAME DOCUMENT - do not crete new documents
  • Use address es that are familiar to the client such as 123 York Street, Sydney, 2000 - see http://www.whereis.com for examples
